TERMAL KAPLICALARI

The Yalova–Termal and Armutlu Thermal Springs, located in Yalova Province, are among Turkey’s top-priority and first-degree important thermal springs. The Termal Springs are located 12 km away from Yalova city center, in the town center of Termal.

The healing waters of Termal, which have been a center of health for various civilizations for centuries, are still used today for the treatment of many illnesses. These thermal waters provide healing for patients suffering from rheumatic and metabolic diseases, digestive system, liver, gallbladder, kidney, and urinary tract diseases, post-orthopedic surgeries, skin disorders, psychological illnesses, gynecological issues, and other functional problems.

Termal, influenced by various cultures throughout history, gained great importance especially during the Roman era due to its thermal waters. It is believed that the Termal springs emerged after a major earthquake around 2000 BC. Since the 6th century, they have been known as Pythia Therma – Baths of Power and Might in Pythia, due to the steam and hot water emerging from underground fissures, which were thought to be linked to an underground deity. The "Elixir of Life" bathhouses, regarded as the secret to youth, were first built by King Constantinus and later restored during the reign of Iustinianos.

The springs regained importance during the time of Sultan Abdulhamid, and took their current form during the era of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic. Atatürk gave great importance to Termal, visited frequently to rest, and spent a long time there. Throughout history, Termal has preserved its role as a center for health and relaxation.

Kurşunlu Bath:

Built 16 centuries ago by the Byzantine Emperor Iustinianos, the Kurşunlu Bath was buried under the ground due to disasters and wars. It was restored in 1990 upon the order of Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid. The bath is called "Kurşunlu" (meaning “leaded”) because its roof is covered with lead. There is an inscription in Ottoman Turkish on a marble plaque on the outer wall of the bath.

Valide Bath:

Built during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Constantinus with six domes, three of which are missing today. It was restored during the Ottoman period by Sultan Abdülmecid, and since his mother received treatment there, it was named Valide Hamamı (Mother's Bath).
